No Gatekeeping: My Rates as a Nano Influencer

Hi everyone, my name is Jesse, and welcome back to another episode of *Table Talk*, a video podcast series where we sit down at my dining room table and chat about all things life together.

How to become an influencer and make money

My Journey as a Nano Influencer

As of right now, I have under 2,000 followers across all of my social media platforms, yet I have still managed to land paid campaign deals with brands and get on PR lists for well-known beauty and fashion brands.

 My Credentials in the Industry

But Jesse, how come? Here, come closer—let’s get into the credentials first. If you're new here, you should know that I work as a full-time content creator, influencer, and freelance social media marketer. Why is this important? Because one of my freelance gigs involves working as a PR manager.

Understanding Influencer Rates

This means that I see the back end of every influencer’s numbers, ranging anywhere between 1,000 to over a million followers. Your favorite influencer makes enough to pay for their future child’s tuition based on one sponsored YouTube video—just let that sink in.

With all of the negotiations that I handle on a day-to-day basis, I know influencer contract terms and rates like the back of my hand. I then used all of the experience that I’ve gained throughout the years of PR management to negotiate and land my own deals as a nano influencer.

Lesson 1: You Have to Look the Part

Yes, the influencing world can be very superficial, but I don’t mean changing your appearance—no, no, no. Stay true to who you are. What I’m talking about is your digital media presence.

Lesson 2: Create Aesthetic Content for Brands

You can’t expect brands to reach out and gift you if you don’t post about brands in the first place. So to start off, use what you already have.

Lesson 3: Work Smarter, Not Harder

There are so many influencing platforms out there that will do the outreach for you. Each platform works differently, but the general gist of it is that you sign up using your email address, plug in your social media handles, and then brands will gift you products in exchange for a set of deliverables.

Lesson 4: Get Brands to Notice You

Be sure to tag the brands that you’re mentioning and use specific hashtags as well to attract them.

Lesson 5: Know Your Worth

There is absolutely no gatekeeping here. These are the rates that I charge as a nano influencer.

Lesson 6: No One Talks About Buying Followers

That’s not really a lesson—it’s more of a statement. You never see anyone admitting to this, but I feel like it’s very much a thing in the Hollywood influencing world.

Lesson 7: Stay Grounded in the Influencing World

Don’t psych yourself out, and don’t get too carried away.

Lesson 8: Don’t Quit Your Day Job (Yet!)

Unless you are making those $20K to $60K deals, do not under any circumstance quit your day job.
